As you enjoy the layers of learning Discovery Toys provide, we want you to know about the layers of safety and quality that we build into every toy in our line.
We start with a layer of design analysis and review. All new products go through a thorough in-house design review and testing to all safety regulations put forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). If we are ever unsure of the safety of a new design, we seek out assistance from the accredited testing laboratories to help us identify if there are any potential hazards. This is just one example of how Discovery Toys goes above and beyond the regulations to ensure the safest product is designed.
No matter how carefully we design Discovery Toys products, there is no true measure for confirming we have done our job without testing. The next layer of safety we incorporate is to contract with third party accredited testing laboratories to test products for lead, phthalates, and heavy metals - to name a few - and to conduct abuse testing to ensure our products meet all required safety regulations for both the United States and Canada.
In addition to the standard test requirements, we go one layer deeper and subject our products to repetitive normal use conditions in real life environments as well as potential misuse to ensure the product can withstand the unique Discovery Toys product guarantee.
We add yet another layer of quality assurance and contract with third party inspection facilities to conduct on-site factory inspections. Discovery Toys product is only allowed to leave the factory once we have certification that our product has laboratory testing and inspection.
Our final layer of quality and safety is conducted once the product arrives at our warehouse. Product is both inspected and safety tested by our in-house Quality Assurance Department before it is allowed to ship to our customers.

What is BPA?- Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical found in polycarbonate plastic (clear, shatterproof plastic). Polycarbonate is used in a wide variety of products including toys due to its shatter resistant properties; however some laboratory studies have linked BPA with adverse affects in laboratory animals in very high doses. There have been no extensive studies on the effects of BPA in humans, though it is clear more research is needed.
What is being done about BPA?- There is a great deal of conflicting scientific information on BPA. Many health officials have confirmed there is not enough scientific evidence to prove BPA poses a health risk to humans. The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration have called for additional studies on the chemical.
Did you know that BPA is not currently regulated in toys? - That's right…there are no regulations for BPA in toys. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has not banned the use of this material. There are some states that have banned BPA in children's drinking bottles and food containers for children under three. Canada as recently as last month has also banned infant drinking bottles. The reason for this is because the chemical can leach into hot liquids from food containers. Toys have not been a part of any of this recent legislation.
Discovery Toys is so committed to safety and quality that we too have been reviewing our product line, working closely with our manufacturers and seeking alternative materials if BPA is being used. We truly mean it when we say:

Can we tell our customers Discovery Toy products are BPA free? - No, but here is what you can say:
- The entire infant line is BPA free.
- BPA is found in clear plastic, so you can be assured by visually looking at our line that most Discovery Toys would not ever have contained BPA.
